Connacht turn to Friend

24 maj 2018 18:51

Andy Friend has been appointed the new head coach of Connacht, the Pro14 club have announced.

The Australian has penned a three-year contract with the Irish province to replace Kieran Keane, who was dismissed after a dismal debut season in which Connacht finished sixth in Conference A.

Friend counts spells as head coach of Harlequins and Brumbies on his coaching CV, while he was also part of Eddie Jones' staff with Australia for the 2002 Tri-Nations series and the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

"I am extremely excited and honoured to be appointed as head coach of Connacht Rugby," Friend told the club's website.

"Connacht is a proud province with huge potential to build on the success of recent seasons.

"I look forward to meeting the players, staff, supporters and wider community when I arrive in the Sportsground ahead of the new season."
