Catalans crush Salford to confirm Super League safety

21 lipiec 2018 20:24

Fouad Yaha's four tries helped Catalans Dragons secure their Super League safety in a dominant 44-10 home win over Salford Red Devils on Saturday.

The French club knew victory would put them beyond reach of ninth-placed Leeds Rhinos and they never looked like missing out on a Super 8s spot.

Salford, who are already consigned to the bottom four, will now hope to find some form before the Qualifiers in Friday's visit from Leeds, who now hold only a remote chance of overhauling Wakefield Trinity.

Winger Yaha was the chief destroyer for Catalans, scoring twice and assisting another for Kenny Edwards in his side's five-try first half.

Derrell Olpherts had given the Red Devils some comfort when he crossed in between Josh Drinkwater and Jason Baltieri tries, but the carnage only continued with two more for Yaha inside the first seven minutes of the second half.

Josh Wood grabbed Salford's second on 62 minutes to briefly add some respectability to the score but it would not last, Edwards capping off a clever Drinkwater grubber to seal a win which gives the Dragons breathing room with one game remaining.
