Cubs reliever Morrow won´t return this season

19 wrzesień 2018 03:10

Brandon Morrow will not return to the Chicago Cubs in 2018.

Chicago have shut down the 34-year-old reliever for the season, general manager Theo Epstein told reporters on Tuesday. Morrow is dealing with a bone bruise in his arm and last pitched in an MLB game on July 15.

Morrow registered a 1.47 ERA with 22 saves in 35 appearances this season. He struck out 31 and walked nine in 30.2 innings on the mound.

Morrow signed a two-year, $21million deal with the Cubs this offseason after he posted a breakout season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.

Chicago had been using Pedro Strop as their closer in Morrow's absence. But, Strop suffered a hamstring strain last week and will reportedly be out for the rest of the regular season.

"There's no panic here," Epstein said about the injuries to Chicago's relievers (via USA Today).

The Cubs entered play on Tuesday with a 2.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central.
